The Best Teacher

When I was in the first grade in school, I had a wonderful art teacher named Mr. Hatfield. He loved kids, and he was a great artist. I'll always remember what he said to me one time as he looked over my shoulder at what I was painting. "You are really good at design."
My painting was a rabbit with carrots all around it as a border.
It seems I love to do that sort of thing, and even in decorating my home, I'm always conscious of balancing space and stuff and color.
Of course I see flaws in the bird design-I didn't plan it ahead of painting it, and I would have changed some colors-but there's something I do like about it.
I'm a bit happy with this one because I stared at the moon one night, trying to remember how the colors were so I could paint it later.
I want to try a lot more of this kind of painting-from memory.

This story reminds me of Sheila Lachmund, a girl I went to school with. In art class I drew one of those long curly line trees. Sheila painted the most amazing tree of painted individual leaves. Every thing she did in art class was amazing, while all I could do was win spelling bees. Proof to me that there is truth in the left brain right brain theory. Love your moon lit tree.

We all should remember how important a few encouraging word can be. :)

I’m super glad too! Thought I had commented but probably forgot to send it. I love your bird, memory has a way of making something so true to ourselves.
