Watercolor with some white gouache.
I like using the M. Graham brand of gouache. You can mix white with your watercolor paint and it will take on the consistency of gouache. (It will also lighten the paint color) If I remember right, the M. Graham brand uses honey for the binder in their line of gouache
.
I use a different brand of watercolor-I think Winsor & Newton. Those would be wonderful names for two cats, wouldn't they?

Winsor and Newton do make good pet names. Adorable bird. You have a special talent to give your artwork charm.
Very beautiful. Have a nice day.
Gorgeous birdie, love it! I have a friend who really has her cats named Winsor and Newton. And her do is Schminke. Too funny! Hugs, Valerie
Lovely sweet painting, Debra. Love it 😍
Beautiful painting Debra-winsor and newton would make great pet names-hugs from the lake
Lovely bird. I shall have to try mixing watercolour with gouache.
As someone who cannot draw (nor cares to for that matter), I am always amazed and in awe of your paintings. This beautiful bird and feather are no exception, dear Debra. I think those would be great cat names, too, but I don't give my animals human names.
I love Little Brown Bird. If he migrates, I hope he stops by my feeder. Gouache is a whole new chapter in the big art book I am studying. Thanks for the tips on the subject. I have been in the garden; making great progress. I almost missed this post!
Oh Debra I think you need a couple of kittens named Winsor & Newton. They are not quite as much maintenance as dogs :)!! Love your Little Brown Bird. Such a special painting. Love how you included the feather in the corner. Have a great day. Hugs!
What a beautiful little brown bird, Debra. And I love the little feather, too. :)
Lovely little brown bird!!
