New acrylic painting

 "Looking"
acrylic on canvas
Debra Smith

I like working in acrylics for lots of reasons.

Painting even a little while each day has helped get me going again. I have so much to learn that it's daunting, but I'll never learn it if I just think about painting. I do that!
This painting had been put aside with only the abstract background done. I knew I wanted to add something-just didn't know what. It took me a couple of months to figure out it had to be birds hiding in the abstract shapes and colors. I know I'll do more like this.

 I pray, a lot,while I'm working.
I think some of my months of not painting have been because I just can't really see a purpose for what I'm doing. The pandemic doesn't help, but I felt that way before.

When you do art, you're alone. I just had to tell my sweet husband to scat-I was still working on the painting. We talked lovingly about it, but it still felt wrong. What am I doing? Where is this art thing going anyway?

I don't know.
But like I said above, I pray about this thing I'm doing and I can't get around it-I gotta paint.

I'm still gonna paint and someday I'll know why.

The birds are all giving us the eye of lovely painting.
Why art is much the same as asking why me. Beauty is beauty. Life is Life. We flow with art better than without.

Lovely. The painting is vibrant with life.
Your question is valid and one I asked myself for a long time, then I watched Chariots of Fire.In the movie, Eric Liddell, a devout Scottish Christian, says he runs for the glory of God. Quote. "God made me fast. And when I run, I feel HIS pleasure." It translated right into my art heart. That's why I try to paint some of His beautiful creations. Same as you dear Debra.

If you pray while you paint Debra, that could be your reason for painting. It may meditatively take you to a higher plane of existence where you more easily connect with your spiritual side. I wouldn’t search for the “why” of painting. Instead I’d be thankful for the gifts of creativity and fulfillment which are the bonuses!

I do love your painting Debra, the cheeky way the birds are peeking out.
Sometimes I ask myself the same question about painting but I look on them as another kind of meditation... a nice retreat when I don't want to think about worldly things so to speak! I like what Salty Pumpkin said in her comment... "we flow with art better than without" xx
