I saw a little Carolina wren trying to build a nest in the garden mailbox. It would have only meant death to the babies if I had let her continue building. So I filled the end of the mailbox with rocks. Look at the bits of loveliness that she had gathered....
Above is the new compost bin.
And here's Sam, looking up at something...
while she balances on one toe!
I have saved the nest material to draw and paint.

Hi Debra, thank you for your comments and wow what a beautiful nest. we have carolina wrens here too
Maybe a mailbox tied higher to a tree? Mother Wren building nearby a new nest? Your yard is full of wonderful stories to tell, draw and paint.
Oh Debra such a wise decision to save the wren from making a big mistake. I adore bird's nests. Such intricate artistry is amazing. Is not God good?? Looks like you are beginning to get ready for some gardening. I too am digging around on the warmer days. Take care and have a lovely weekend. Hugs!
Your Carolina Wren really does have an eye for beauty. I hope we will see some of her in your work. I do hope she found a better place for her new nest. I am looking forward to seeing lots of garden pictures!
Wonderful pictures and words. I'm waiting for your painting!
Beautiful idea to gather the pieces to use in art. I hope the wren manages to build a new nest in a safer place! Hugs, Valerie
I love looking at your garden area. Mine isn't nearly as interesting as yours, but you inspire me to get a picture of it before planting anything in it. :)
Wrens are one of my favourite little birds! I am curious to see the new painting project!!
These are beautiful pictures. It's amazing, the work the tiny Carolina Wren puts into building a nest. We have several here, working on nests. Bet you can do lots of beautiful drawings with things she gathered. I love your unusual garden beds..
I am sorry to be so late visiting. It was definitely not by choice. I guess I've never seen a Carolina wren before. So good of you to keep her from making a poor choice.
I love that you are collecting nest material to use in your art and paintings. Beautiful photos and a wonderful gesture on your part, too.
Dear Debra - such wonderful photos. And thank you for caring about Gods creation. I am really looking forward to see your painting from the nest material. Your garden looks so lovely.
Wish you a blessed Easter and Gods blessing.
These are wonderful photos. I so enjoyed this post. Have a lovely day.
We have wrens here in the UK, I'm always thrilled to see one hopping about the plant pots in our garden. Such sweet little birds, with a loud song. She left you a beautiful nest to sketch Debra.
