This is a little Carolina wren that slept under our kitchen porch ceiling for a few weeks. He would come in to roost a bit before it got dark, after announcing his presence with a loud call. He would just tuck in and sleep till around 6am, then be off for his day of being a bird. I loved it so much. He is sleeping elsewhere now. I miss that little fellow.
Above is my first attempt at paint-dyeing fabric. I wouldn't wash this after dyeing this way. It was an interesting experiment. Might be better to overdye with paint. I'll have to try more experiments to see if I want to keep dyeing that way.
I'm starting with some fabric work but it's been so long I feel completely rusty. I'm not sure where I'm going with this. But I want to make fabric pictures, then paint on canvas what I have stitched. A series of stitch and paint works.
I hope your day is full of creativity and fun. Please tell me what you're up to!

Love the little wren and wonder where he shelters at night now. Funny how we return to a technique and materials. I've been thinking about returning to some clay and/or cloth work. Your work in progress is interesting, and I'm eager to see how you proceed!
The white flower is lovely.
Have you tried the Japanese dyeing technique, Shibori? I read about it on a Liz Adams' blog, Art, the Beautiful Metaphor. I tried it myself this morning on a piece of PVC pipe using lace hem as the string to tie around the tube with fabri rolled.
Lovely photos, what a sweet house guest you had. Do I see rhubarb in your garden? Love the idea of a series of stitched and painted pieces, have fun! Hugs, Valerie
Debra this sounds like a spectacular creative endeavor. I love the color and texture of the fabric you have chosen for this project. Wrens are such sweet birds. I am sure you do miss him. Hugs!
He looks so lonely Little darling. Your dyeings are beautiful. I have no idea how you do these.

I want to be polite. But this is not anything I would email or answer. I mean no disrespect-but I do not trust people, and that's a sad thing. But it is necessary these days. I am publishing your comment, but that is all I will do. I wish you well, and God bless.
This is a lovely post. I really like the painted fabrics. The flowers are gorgeous.
Beautiful
I often wonder where birds go at night. I don't know the birds that live here in California..yet. We do have Ravens living somewhere close. I have heard a wren but haven't seen him. I saw a Road Runner up on the mountain!! I was so excited!! I'll like to see more of what you are doing with the fabric.
Be safe and be well.
xx, Carol
What a lot of interesting projects you have started, Debra. I particularly like the fabric experiments because I love fabric but never work with it.
