Lots of stuff to eat from this patch.
And look what a lovely surprise I found! Three monarch butterfly larvae on the fennel! They're all on the same plant, even though I have lots of fennel in the garden. I have milkweed too, but I've never found these creatures on any of my milkweed-only on the fennel.
These two have a slug pal. Yum! Fennel is good!!!
Above is my hazelnut bush making his nuts. I gathered nuts last year, but they were small and hard. I like how unusual the nut casings are. It's a beautiful bush. I found some seedling bushes this spring from nuts squirrels had buried, so I planted the seeding trees. They are 3 feet tall now.
Aren't these just so beautiful?
Papyrus plants...
Above are my beans. I have 4 different green beans in rows about 10 feet long. I have harvested well over two bushels of beans from these plants. One variety is the yard long purple bean. They are completely odd and I'm not sure I like them at all.
Sam, soaking in her pool this morning. The chair is our 'holding chair.' She sits and lays on my lap and goes to sleep while I hold her. I tell you it is wonderful to have a goose love you so much that she will sleep on your lap. That chair is a comfort to Sam when I'm not with her. She will stay by it most of the day.
Our yard.
God bless you all. Please stay safe from the storms.

Good morning, I loved seeing your garden-thanks so much for sharing. hugs
Lovely yard tour, Debra! Larvae of any kind are not my favorite. I’m recovering right now from over 25 tick larvae bites, but your Monarch butterfly larvae are indeed very pretty! I also love the beauty of your Papyrus plants.
You have a beautiful and thoughtful yard. A little in ground pond for Sam, if they weren't such a ton of work to keep.
Your garden is wonderful, lovely to see so much green, beautiful flowers and yummy veggies. Fennel is a wonderful plant, no wonder the caterpillars like it! And always good to see Sam! Stay safe, hugs, Valerie
I love seeing your garden, your holding chair, and Sam! The papyrus plants are so interesting, so graphic, so historically intriguing! I want some! What a wonderful garden to wake up to each day.
This is a lovely garden and wonderful to see the monarch larvae. Lots of work but fun work.
😊 sweet goose
I love walking through your garden with you and Sam! I have enlarged every picture and enjoyed every picture. I am a bit envious of your monarch caterpillars. I don't have fennel, but I do have dill which the butterflies love too. I am glad you take time to sit with Sam in the holding chair...good for the two of you I am sure!
Thank you Debra for sharing the presentation of your beautiful, vital garden. Pollinators an other insects love this kind of places which are natural without plant toxics. How nice you get fresh vegetables from your own garden. Now a days we are worried of pollinators which don't have meadow flowers enough to their need. Here in Finland green proofs are becoming popular. Opposite to my flat is getting ready a new metro station and its proof is covered with green grass. I live high and can see it. When I bought the flat there out was lovely old forest, and I cried when they put it down. Now I am happy to get some green under my eye.
Be safe and have good time and enjoy your garden - and Sam xx
