My first Junk Journal, made 7 years ago...

I'm sorry there's so many pictures-I just got so anxious to show all my blog pals, and honestly-to show myself something....
I've been loving watching all the YouTube videos that show artists' junk journals page by page. It is so much fun and so inspiring. But I found myself thinking-'oh, I could never come up with so many ideas...' But this is the first journal I made.
But I did!!! Without even looking at a video back then I just got all-PRIM and did my own style and this is what happened! I love that feeling of looking at your old art and thinking-wow! I did that?

Now that sounds so proud and I don't mean it to come out that way. Too much of the time I look at my art and get sooooo discouraged. But this book made me happy....

I used paper copies of my own photos and transfers and fabric... and some old ephemera It was just a wild, fun time when I made this book.
Above is Titus, my dear sweet goose girl who is in heaven now.

The clothes pins aren't part of the book-I used them to hold it open.

I love the backside of embroidery and quilts. This is the extent of my quilt-making-just little patches. Making a big quilt seems like something I would need lots of help with. Maybe someday.

I LOVE red work, above, and wish I still had the old coverlet the owls came from.
Above is a sketch I did of one of my grandma's rocking chairs, which I have now.
An old sketch I included in this book-done in the 80's. It's amazing-the paper is actually getting some age spots on it. (Like me!)

Thanks for looking and for being my pals.

Debra your junk journal from the past is fabulous. You should be so happy when you look back on that lovely endeavor. You are never short on creative ideas my friend and this book certainly is a testament to that fact. I am so glad you shared this on line. I love it. Hope all is well. Hugs!

I absolutely adore this junk journal. I call mine visual journals, but that was before people started calling them junk journals. I like to make them, but I don't want to write in them.

Yours has SO much more texture than any of mine. I am in awe that you used scraps of lace, scraps of real embroidery, etc. This may have been your first, but it is simply stunning. I enlarged the photos to be able to fully appreciate each page's beauty. Well done, Debra. Can we possibly expect more of these beauties?

I didn't know you made junk journals. Yours are really nice and you are a wonderful artist. I've just looked back at your older posts. My daughter is into junk journals big time! You make have seen her on Youtube at A Bit of Birdsong.

I love when an artist does her own thing with no influence from others. And, I love this first journal of yours, dear Pal!

Wow! What a wonderful junk journal--so full of memories! I also love the clothes pins to hold the pages open; they really are a fitting addition. :)

Oh my dear friend! What a comment! Thank you! But your pieces DO have texture and a real color-sense. I struggle with that. I am working on a journal now that I probably won't write in either....
Oh-I found out that you can glue fabric very easily with gel medium. Lace if it's heavy, probably needs tacky glue. So that made it simple to glue stuff kind of quickly and have fun doing it-not fussing over it too much.

I'm going to look up your daughter and I'm sure I will follow her on YouTube-the name 'A Bit Of Birdsong' sealed that deal!
Thank you!

Thank you! Yes Titus was quite a goose...someday I have to write in my blog about her. She was smarter than the average goose.

A multi-talented lady you are! I love the originality of this journal... using found materials and you even figured out how to bind it. I'm impressed.
